One of the few veteran hand woven textile producers from Bhutan, Karma Yangchen possesses great passion and mastery over Bhutanese textiles from which Bhutanese attires are made. Her fascination for weaving started when she was sixteen and it inspired her to become a skillful textile designer. At twenty she started her own textile business. Furthermore, she is a pioneer in natural dyes with over 25 years of experience. She learnt the art of traditional dyeing from her aunt and then advanced her knowledge of contemporary dyeing from Bangladesh and Singapore.
As a resource person for Handicraft Association of Bhutan (HAB) and Agency for Promotion of Indigenous Craft (APIC), she has trained over 2000 weavers across the country on natural dye.
Through the Royal Textile Academy, Karma and her team had the privilege of weaving the Royal attire ‘Namza’ (Gho) for His Majesty for his coronation in 2008.
