DRUK YATHRA is a family business based in Bumthang in central Bhutan that mainly focuses on Traditional dyeing and Yathra weaving production. Created by Mr. Thokmed Yeshey in the 80’s, the initial idea was to provide the people of Bumthang opportunities to earn wages in order to meet their basic needs. Later it became a hub for textiles and cultural preservation. DRUK YATHRA presents timeless collections that are a reflection of the tradition of Bumthang, a remote jewel place in Bhutan. There, Natural Dying and Yathra Weaving are passed down from generation to generation through women’s hands and heart. Recipes to create beautiful shades of yarns are kept secret within the family circle, and transmit from mother to daughter. Yathra originated from Chumey Bumthang, has been since ancient time, a very unique specialty of weaving from this region. Druk Yahtra honors this tradition and this precious knowledge of these women of Chumey celebrating beauty and nature.
